12/4/2001

This was our second conference game and like Loyola we had a chip on our shoulders. Rider was picked to finish in 4th place in our league. Rider is off to a bad start with their record being 1-6. This was a game that we knew we could win and finish 1-1 in the first week of MAAC conference play. This was also our first home game when students would be able to come. We came out strong in the opening minutes of the game going 7-7 on three point shots. We went 8-10 in the first five minutes of the game. Rider would then go on its own run outscoring us 8-1. Making the score of the game 25-23 with 8:56 left in the first half. We settled down and went on another run going up by 13 points. Going into half we were shooting 56% from the three point line. We also had the lead 45-36. Rider began the second half on a quick 7-2 run to make the score 47-42. We responded with a 9-0 in the next 2:13 pushing the lead back up to 14 points. Sophomore Adam Kemp who went scoreless and reboundless in the first half exploded for 19 points and 7 rebounds in just 15 minutes in the second half. We won the game by a score of 95-75. Our 95 points was the most points score in a Marist game since 2002 when Marist faced LaSalle. Junior Devin Price would lead us in scoring and getting a career high in points with 25 points. Adam Kemp finished with 19 points and 7 rebounds, Chavaughn Lewis finished with 17 points and 7 rebounds and Freshman Isaiah Morton finished with 15 points and 5 assists. We are now 1-1 in MAAC conference play. We return to non-conference play when we face Army on 12/7/2011 at 7pm.

12/1/2011 1st MAAC Conference Game

On Wednesday night the team took the bus down to Maryland to play our first conference game Thursday night against Loyola University. Going into this game the team as well as the coaches had a chip on their shoulders because this was one of the teams that picked us to finish 10th in the league. We all felt like we had something to prove to everyone. Loyola was picked to finish in 3rd place. This was another game I had to watched from the bench and being that it was a conference game I was kind of upset that I would not be able to take the court with my teammates. Loyola came out strong in the first minute going up 5-1. We responded with our own 7-0 making the score 8-5. The game would go back and forth for the remainder of the half with Marist going into halftime up by 1 point.Loyola came out strong in the second half and never looked backed. We did not have the lead not one time in the second half. This was a game we gave away and should of won. We lost by a score of 76-63. Freshman Chavaughn Lewis continued to play well leading us in scoring with 16 points and Junior Devin Price added 11 points of his own. Our next game is on Sunday 12/4/2011 against Rider another conference team.

Voices from around the NCAA...Durand Scott (University of Miami)

Well with the transition of having a new basketball director and head coach it's
been a little different. Getting to know them and what they stand for has helped
a lot. Thus far we are 4-1 and are doing well under these new conditions. My team
seems comfortable but still had much more to learn and is willing to do so. We
are ranked 4th in ACC so we're shooting to finish in 1st and make an appearance in the
NCAA tournament. We believe this is the year to do so and with me being a junior, I am going to help
lead my team to have the best possible chance.

11/26/2011 Colgate University

We were successful last night in getting our first home win against Colgate Raiders. This is our second win of the season and we are really starting to come together. Our freshman are building momentum as they are gaining a lot of experience. Chavaughn Lewis emerged as a strong player recording his career high 23 points, shooting 47% from the field. This was a great accomplishment for him after making the Mohegan Sun All Tournament Team. Other freshman such as Manny Thomas proved to be integral parts of the team as he also recorded a career high 13points and wowed the crowed with a thunderous dunk. Thomas has brought a lot of energy as he causes a lot of charges on defense. Junior Devin Price has been consistent as he recorded 12 points and a team high 5 assists. He has consistently averaged 11.12 points a game while, leading the team in assist. Sophomore Adam Kemp recorded 8 points and 10 rebounds proving to be a dominant force inside. Overall, this was a big win for the Marist Basketball program and we hope to build upon it as we take on in conference foe Loyola University on Thursday December 1 down in Maryland. We are now 2-4.

11/24/2011 Happy Gobble Gobble Day

Hey everyone its Thursday and its Thanksgiving. I hope everyone out there is enjoying their day. As for me and some of my teammates we are at school on this lovely holiday because we either live to fa or it was just a waste of time to go home and have to be back later tonight. We had practice at 8am this morning and finish at about 11am. Some people parents came to pick them up but others like Devin Price who lives in California, Jesse Martin who live in Maryland, Jay Bowie who lives in Florida and Pieter Prinsloo who lives in Delaware are still at school. As for me I only live and hour and a half away on the train but I decided to stay here up at school because I would only be able to go home for a short period of time, eat and have to come right back. Yea it sucks but hey, that's the life of a college athlete. Being that I live with Devin and Jesse we all decided that we would just go to the diner and eat thanksgiving dinner there. I hope all is well with everyone and hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
